This itinerary requires a head for heights, the physical work capacity to keep moving in altitude for long hours and a familiarity in dealing with the effects of Altitude. We spend most of our days over 4000 mts and long hours trekking on steep surfaces and possibly snow
Our route branches of from the classic Everest Base Camp trail towards Gokyo lakes. The village near the 3rd lake @ 4700 mts forms the base for our exploratory as we trek up the Gokyo Ri (5300 mts) and follow the trail that runs paralell to the Ngozumpa Glacier towards lake 6.
Several of these days involve 8-10 hours on the trail, consecutively. We follow the Wildferness Medical societites guidelines on acclimatisation and also require participants to very seriously consider their medical suitability.
While we plan the logistics and help participants prepare for the Exploratory, like any adventure, this one too is subject to the forces of nature and requires a keen sense of adventure and a mindset to embracing the uncertainties that come with remote exploration. The ability to integrate in a group and work as a team member towards a shared goal are of paramount importance. This means team members must be able to adapt to the dynamics of diversity and support each other. We are also mindful about the environment and do the best that we can to reduce our footprint ie avoid wasting food and water and reducing ‘our trash impact’ whereever possible. Our stay is in simple teahouses with very basic facilities and wi-fi and electricity are available but can also be down at times.
